Lisbon transport system ticket machines

Whilst it is possible to board trams on most routes and buy a ticket using cash, it is becoming increasingly difficult and frowned upon – after all, who carries cash nowadays?!

For 2025 the single fare for a journey of any length (even from one stop to the next) purchased on a tram is €3.10. Bearing in mind a trip to the end of any line and back is charged as two separate journeys it makes much more sense to buy a 24 hour ticket for €6.80, which includes a €0.50 fee for buying the reusable Navegante card.

The 24 hour ticket pass is excellent value is it gives you a full 24 hours travel, it is not just valid on the day you buy it. In addition to all tram routes the €6.80 pass includes Lisbon’s buses, the metro system, the historic funiculars and the Santa Justa lift.

Buy your 24 hour ticket from the machines at any metro station. For tourists, the most convenient in the city centre are Baxia-Chiado, Rossio, Martim Moniz and Cais do Sodré. The machines give instructions in several languages and there are always staff on hand to help if you need it.
